Victim ServicesLaw enforcement-based victim advocates are not protected by confidentiality. This means any information provided to advocates that pertains to a criminal case must be reported to the investigating officer. Victim advocates are required by law to report any incidents of child abuse.
Domestic Violence
The City of Westminster has implemented a Domestic Violence Fast Track Program through our municipal court which requires the defendant in a domestic violence incident to appear in court on the next court date, in most cases the next morning. In these cases the charges are being brought against the defendant by the city and not the victim. The victim is issued a subpoena to appear in court and will meet with a court victim advocate, who then acts as a liaison between the victim and the city Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Protection Orders in Criminal Cases C.R.S. 18-1-1001
As a condition of bond in a criminal case, the judge can issue a protective order directing the defendant to refrain from any contact with the victim. These orders can exclude the defendant from the home, restrain them from direct and indirect contact, prohibit possession or consumption of alcohol or drugs, prohibit the possession of firearms and anything else the court deems appropriate. These orders do not cover care and control of minor children. Violations should be reported to local law enforcement. Enforcement for violation is through the prosecuting attorney, who can ask the court to revoke bond. These orders are in effect for the duration of bond or throughout the criminal justice process.
Civil Restraining orders to prevent domestic abuse may be obtained with the assistance of the following non-profit organizations.
