 Westminster Fire Department

Welcome to the Westminster Fire Department

Founded in 1934 as a one-station, volunteer department, the Westminster Fire Department has grown to over 140 career firefighters, paramedics and support staff who serve the city from six fire stations and the Public Safety Center. Learn more about the Westminster Fire Department on our About Us section.

Community Events

The Westminster Fire Department participates in many community events to actively promote fire and life safety and to support chartiable causes.  This time of year WFD is proud to carry on two holiday traditions:

Charity Drive

The Westminster Fire Department will coordinate the annual holiday charity drive November 16 through December 18 to support the Have a Heart Project, Jeffco Foster Care and Westminster FISH (food bank) and. You have the chance to help the less fortunate by donating toys, clothing or non-perishable food items. Donations of new or gently used items can be dropped off at any city facility (look for the green bins at City Hall, libraries, and rec centers). Firefighters will collect the items and distribute them to the three local charities. Call 303-658-4500 for more information.

Santa Visits

Those lucky enough to get Santa visits (it was a lottery) can expect Westminster Firefighters to bring Santa to visit the between Nov. 30 - Dec. 5. The visits are done by district, see http://www.cityofwestminster.us/santa for details.

Other Holiday Events

The Westminster Fire Department is also pleased to support the Westminster Historical Society at the South Westminster Tree Lighting event on Thursday, Dec. 3 at Fire St. #1 and the Holiday Lighting event at City Hall on Saturday, Dec. 5.

Emergency notification service for cell, internet phone users

Cell phone users and VoIP (voice over IP) customers can register their phone numbers to receive emergency notifications from Westminster police and fire. The system works in a similar manner to what is commonly referred to as "Reverse 911." When a need exists to notify citizens in a certain area of the city, you can receive the notification on your cell phone or VoIP phone.

The service, which is managed by the Jefferson County E911 Authority, is available to all city residents, whether they live in Adams County of Jefferson County. If you are served by the Westminster Police and Fire departments, you can register your cell phone or internet phone number.

To register your cell phone or internet phone number visit http://www.your911.net/ external link. If you do not have internet access or need assistance, please contact the Westminster Communications Center at 303-658-4360. More information is on the city website.

Home Safety for Older Adults Program

The Westminster Fire Department offers FREE home safety surveys for Westminster residents age 60+.  Firefighters and trained volunteers visit homes to do a safety inventory and provide some supplies like smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, fresh batteries, power strips, hot pads, and night lights if needed.  Residents will receive a copy of the survey, detail of services provided, and recommendations for further steps to make their home safer. The 2009 home visits are offered on August 22 and November 7.  Contact Sherrie Leeka, 303-658-4536 or sleeka@cityofwestminster.us, for information.
