 Westminster Fire Department

Welcome to the Westminster Fire Department

Founded in 1934 as a one-station, volunteer department, the Westminster Fire Department has grown to over 140 career firefighters, paramedics and support staff who serve the city from six fire stations and the Public Safety Center. Learn more about the Westminster Fire Department on our About Us section.

Community Events

The Westminster Fire Department participates in many community events to actively promote fire and life safety and to support chartiable causes.

Apply for Citizen Academy

The Westminster Fire Department is offering citizens an up close and personal look at fire department operations in our community with the fourth annual WFD Citizen Academy.  Citizens are invited to participate in a free 13-week course to learn about the wide-range of services WFD provides.  Classes include topics like fire behavior, EMS scenarios, extrication from vehicles, and fire extinguisher training with many hands-on activities.  Classes are held on Thursday evenings, 6-10 p.m. beginning March 4 through May 27. Applicants must be 18 years old and are subject to a background check. Please note that this course is simply to gain community knowledge — it’s not a precursor to a career in fire or emergency services. There is no fee for the course unless CPR certification is desired; CPR certification is $15. The session is limited to 20 participants and preference is given to Westminster residents. Applications are considered in the order they are received. Citizen Academy registration forms may be emailed to sleeka@cityofwestminster.us or printed and dropped off or mailed to the Westminster Fire Department, 9110 Yates St, Westminster, CO 80031. For more information contact Public Education Officer Sherrie L. Leeka at 303-658-4536 or sleeka@cityofwestminster.us. Applications are due Feb. 18.

Emergency notification service for cell, internet phone users

Cell phone users and VoIP (voice over IP) customers can register their phone numbers to receive emergency notifications from Westminster police and fire. The system works in a similar manner to what is commonly referred to as "Reverse 911." When a need exists to notify citizens in a certain area of the city, you can receive the notification on your cell phone or VoIP phone.

The service, which is managed by the Jefferson County E911 Authority, is available to all city residents, whether they live in Adams County of Jefferson County. If you are served by the Westminster Police and Fire departments, you can register your cell phone or internet phone number.

To register your cell phone or internet phone number visit http://www.your911.net/ external link. If you do not have internet access or need assistance, please contact the Westminster Communications Center at 303-658-4360. More information is on the city website.
