The Westminster Municipal Court Traffic Summons are issued by the Westminster Police Department. Initial appearances for a traffic summons are on Tuesdays at 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 pm. Beginning March 6, 2017 the times will change to Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. If you have a conflict with the date and time you may call the Clerk's Office and have your case rescheduled once. Many summons issued are payable in advance and do not require you to appear in court. The officer will mark on the front of the summons your option(s). If Box A is marked, your summons is a mandatory court appearance and there will be a specific date and time to appear noted on the summons. If Box B or Box C is marked, you are given the option to pay the ticket without appearing in court. The officer will indicate the fine amount due and the points assessed. If you are under 18, your parent or guardian must also sign your summons or if you choose to appear in court, your parent or guardian must accompany you.
Your options for payment are online, by phone, by mail, or in person. For online payments you can pay at CitePay. If you would like to call in your payment please call 303-658-2250. Our address is 3030 Turnpike Drive, Westminster, CO, 80030 for mail or in-person payments.
To research the charges you were assessed please refer to the Westminster Municipal Code and/or the Model Traffic Code. There are several traffic charges that carry criminal penalties. These charges include but are not limited to No Proof of Insurance, Careless Driving, Reckless Driving, Speed Contest, and Speeding 25 mph or more.
If your summons has Box A marked, you have a mandatory court appearance on the date and time noted on your summons. If you are required to come to court or choose to appear in court on a non-mandatory summons you will have the opportunity to speak with a prosecutor about your case. Once you have spoken to the prosecutor you will have the opportunity to speak to the judge to address what you would like to do on your case. You may accept the plea offer given by the prosecutor or enter a not guilty plea to get attorney representation and/or be set for a trial. If you have a charge of No Proof of Insurance, please bring valid proof of insurance with you to court. This will provide the prosecution your insurance information so that they can verify you had valid insurance on the date and time the ticket was issued. If they are able to validate that, the No Proof of Insurance charge will be dismissed.
Failure to either timely pay your summons in full or appear in court when scheduled may result in a warrant issued on a traffic offense or a guilty by default judgment entered on a traffic infraction. By state statute this can also put a hold on your license by the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicle Department.
