The Westminster Fire Department Investigation Team at the direction of the Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for investigating all fires and hazardous material incidents within the City of Westminster. This includes all structures, vehicles, fields and wildland areas.
The Westminster Fire Department responds to an average of 170 fire incidents per year with 40-50 of those needing investigator responses.
The Fire Investigation Team consists of nine shift investigators and one administrative investigator. The team is comprised of certified investigators and Commissioned Police Officers trained in the area of fire and explosion investigation, and have the ability to make arrests, issue warrants and complete district court case files.
The Fire Prevention Bureau has cooperative working relationships with neighboring jurisdictions and the Colorado Bureau of Investigations (CBI) and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
The team is also responsible for all pre-employment background investigations, personnel investigations, and administrative inquiries.
