The Westminster Fire Department Investigation Team, under the direction of the Fire Prevention Bureau, is responsible for investigating all fires and hazardous material incidents within the City of Westminster. This includes all structures, vehicles, fields, and wildland/urban interface areas.
The Westminster Fire Department responds to an average of 170 fire incidents per year with 40-50 of those needing investigator responses.
The Fire Investigation Team consists of nine shift investigators and one administrative investigator. The team is comprised of certified investigators and Commissioned Peace Officers trained in the area of fire and explosion investigation. Investigators have the ability to make arrests, obtain warrants, issue summonses, and complete district court case filings.
The Fire Prevention Bureau has cooperative working relationships with neighboring jurisdictions, the Colorado Bureau of Investigations (CBI), and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
The team is also responsible for all pre-employment background investigations, personnel investigations, and administrative inquiries.
