The Fire Prevention Bureau works to reduce fires in the community and increase the safety of Westminster citizens through fire investigation, business inspections, review of new construction, review and inspection of fire protection systems, regulation of hazardous materials storage/use/handling, and public education.
Plan Submittal, Fire Codes & Policies, Permits
Plans -- must be submitted for new construction, significant building alterations, tenant finish, fire suppression/sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, hoods and other large projects that affect public safety from fire or hazardous materials.
Permits -- are necessary for things like tents and canopies over 400 sq. feet, underground or above-ground storage tanks, pyrotechnics, and open burning. Download permit application.

Every business in Westminster is inspected annually either through the self-inspection program or an inspection conducted by firefighters. The department is dedicated to providing assistance to business owners and operators to maintain the operations in a fire-safe condition.
Self-Inspection Program-- This program is offered to Westminster businesses evaluated as low-risk for fires; primarily offices and other service related businesses.
Annual Inspections-- Businesses that have a higher risk for fires will be inspected by fire department personnel annually.
The Westminster Fire Department offers a large variety of educational opportunities for all ages. Businesses utilize fire extinguisher training, CPR and First Aid classes, and fire drill services.
