The Fire Prevention Bureau works to mitigate and prevent loss within the community due to fire and other hazardous conditions. We work to improve the safety of Westminster citizens through fire investigation, business inspections, plan review and inspection of fire protection systems, regulation of hazardous materials storage/use/handling, and public education.
Plan Submittal, Fire Codes and Policies, Permits
Plans - must be submitted for new construction, significant building alterations, tenant finishes, fire suppression/sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, hoods and other large projects that affect public safety from fire or hazardous materials.
Permits - shall be required for special events such as block parties, carnivals, use of tents/canopies exceeding 400 sq.ft. etc... Construction and operational permits are also required. Download permit application.

Every business in Westminster is inspected annually by firefighters or by self-inspection. The department is dedicated to providing assistance to business owners and operators to maintain their operations in a fire-safe condition. Businesses are inspected to ensure that they meet the minimum requirements of currently adopted fire code.
Annual Inspections - Businesses will be inspected by fire department personnel annually.
Self-Inspection Program - This program is offered to Westminster businesses evaluated as low-risk for fires.
The Westminster Fire Department offers a large variety of educational opportunities for all ages. Businesses utilize fire extinguisher training, CPR and First Aid classes, and fire drills. School groups enjoy visits from firefighters that provide life safety education. Teens benefit from seatbelt safety, first aid, and youth fire setter prevention programs. Older adults learn fire safety from presentations and home visits.
