Water Rescue Team

The Fire Department Water Rescue Team carries Fire divea long history of providing water rescue services to the citizens of Westminster and Colorado. The team was started in the 1960s by volunteer firefighters. The volunteers were self-trained, as there were no other underwater scuba teams in the state. Money raised from recovery jobs on their own time was used to purchase equipment for the team. Today many of the same traditions started by the volunteer firefighters have been carried on as a focal point of operations.

The Water Rescue Team is comprised of sixteen personnel from the Westminster Fire and Police Departments and provides the following services:

  • Drowning rescue and recovery
  • Swift water rescue and recovery
  • Public water safety education
  • Vehicle, boat or aircraft recovery
  • Underwater crime scene investigations
  • Sonar searches

The Westminster Team is also part of the Metro Dive Rescue Team (MDR), a regional team of public safety divers primarily from jurisdictions on the west side of the metro area.
