Technical Rescue

The Westminster Fire Department has identified Fire extricate image many areas within the City that may need the services of specially trained rescuers and equipment. The Fire Department provides on-going training and purchases equipment every year to be prepared for these special rescue situations:

  • High / Low Angle Rope Rescue
  • Confined Space Rescue
  • Trench/Excavation Rescue
  • Structural Collapse
  • Industrial Extrication
  • Vehicle / Machinery Extrication
  • Ice Rescue

In addition to special rescue services provided by the Fire Department, Westminster participates in Urban Search And Rescue (USAR) with several metro area jurisdictions.  The mission of USAR is urban search and rescue operations for local, state, and national disasters.  USAR is equipped and trained to handle weapons of mass destruction incidents.  The World Trade Center after 9-11, the Oklahoma City bombing, the space shuttle incident, hurricanes, and the 1997 Ft. Collins floods are a few of the incidents to which USAR has responded.. USAR can deploy a specialized team of up to 70 personnel within four hours by ground and six hours by air for a period of up to ten days.
