Community Events

 

The Fire Department is very active in the community. Fire community photoA sampling of the events that Westminster Firefighters participate includes:

  • A Citizen Academy open to Westminster residents.
  • Open Houses at Station 4 and Station 5; the neighborhood is welcome to stop by for lunch, fire truck rides, and more.
  • The department participates in bicycle safety rodeos, safety days at local businesses, the Halloween Carnival, Summer Celebration and the Westy Fest.
  • The department sponsors an annual July 4th Fishing Derby for children and assists with the City fireworks show.
  • Firefighters participate in a number of fund-raising events such as MDA's “Fill the Boot” and The Rockbottom Brewery's “Fire Chief Ale” benefiting the Westminster Firefighters Fire Victims Fund.
  • The Fire Department participates in the National Night Out event to bring safety awareness to the neighborhoods.
  • Westminster Fire supports the Hot Times Kool Cars event that benefits the Children's Hospital Burn Unit.
  • The Annual Banquet organized by the Westminster Public Safety Recognition Foundation held in September of each year to remember the bravery and heroism of police, fire, other public employees, and civilians.
  • During Fire Prevention Month in October, the Westminster Fire Department participates in numerous community events. We organize a city-wide coloring contest and provide public education programs in the schools.
  • During the holidays, the Fire Department organizes the city-wide Holiday Charity Drive where non-perishable food, clothing and toys are donated to the Have a Heart Project, the Jefferson County Foster Care , Westminster FISH Food Bank, and Santa Cops.
  • Fire Station 1 hosts an annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in conjunction with the Westminster Historical Society.
  • Westminster firefighters chauffeur Santa Claus on a fire engine to visit good Westminster boys and girls in their own homes in early December (a tradition since 1937).
  • On Christmas Eve, Westminster firefighters chauffeur Santa Claus to Saint Anthony Hospital to visit sick children of all ages.
  • The Department participates in local and statewide processions or parades.
  • The Fire Department Honor Guard is present at a number of local events presenting the colors or honoring local dignitaries.
