Westcliff Trail

Westcliff Trail

This mostly gravel, 1.6-mile trail follows the cattail-filled Westcliff Creek from the Big Dry Creek Trail to the Farmers' High Line Canal Trail, gaining about 125 feet in elevation in the process. Park on the east side of Wadsworth Boulevard at 99th Avenue and go east to the bridge on Big Dry Creek, where the trail begins. Go left after crossing the bridge where the trail follows Big Dry Creek and be on the look out for beaver activity. The Church Ranch barn on the west side of the creek was built in about 1885 and is Westminster's oldest structure.

The trail passes through a large cattail wetland before climbing steeply between homes in the Westcliff subdivision. After crossing 99th Avenue, the trail passes by Mandalay Middle School. At 96th Avenue, take the concrete trail to the left next to the school. At Pierce Street, cross the street and jog left to a continuation of the gravel trail, which rises gradually to a concrete sidewalk leading to Betty Adams Elementary School to the right. Cross that sidewalk and continue on any one of several narrow dirt paths going over and around an abandoned irrigation pond before reaching the Farmers' High Line Canal Trail and Westcliff Parkway. This area is dotted with ancient cottonwood trees.
