Niver Canal Trail

The 1.1-mile concrete Niver Canal Trail provides a scenic link between the Farmers' High Line Canal Trail and Standley Lake Regional Park. Park in the Oakhurst Park parking lot west of Ammons Street. Follow the wide concrete trail at the west end of the parking lot about 800 feet to the main trail at the T-intersection. To the left, the shady trail leads south past the Covenant Retirement Village to the Farmers' High Line Canal. Go right and the trail eventually leads to Standley Lake.

The trail follows the long abandoned Niver Canal irrigation ditch. Tenacious cottonwood trees struggle to live along the dried-up canal. After crossing Lark Bunting Drive, a playground, picnic shelter and a volleyball court are on the right. The trail leaves the park and enters a grassy open space area with beautiful mountain views. Sandstone boulders line the trail, a reminder of the bedrock which lies beneath Westminster. Crossing Independence Street and into Standley Lake Regional Park the trail soon ends at a gravel park road. Go left on the road and up the hill to Standley Lake, where a spectacular view is your reward.
