Margaret's Pond Trail
Margaret's Pond is one of Westminster's most idyllic spots. A short one-half mile trail encircles this beautiful natural area. This is a pedestrian-only trail. Park in the spaces on the east side of Legacy Ridge Parkway just north of 104th Avenue. Go straight east through the gap in the fence to the path located between the historic Farmers' High Line Canal and the pond. Lots of trees and vegetation provide abundant shade. Pause at the benches under the massive cottonwood trees on the north side of the pond and perhaps spot a muskrat, turtle, duck or beaver. You might want to bring binoculars for this walk.
The trail goes east to the inlet to the pond and then curves back to the southwest. A huge wetland area provides excellent wildlife habitat. Vegetation, including a massive cottonwood tree, crowds the trail as it hugs the canal. In the spring, the shrubby native plum trees are blanketed with fragrant, white blossoms followed by edible fruit in the fall. Take time on your walk to ponder nature and the many nice views. The gravel trail ends at Legacy Ridge Parkway. Go right on the meandering concrete path, over a pretty bridge next to the pond and back to the parking area.
