Allen Ditch Trail
The Allen Ditch is a lateral ditch of the Farmers' High Line Canal. The Allen Ditch is diverted from the Farmers' High Line Canal at about 91st Avenue, west of Pierce Street. The Allen Ditch flows on an easterly course through the city. The ditch is named for William Allen who built the ditch in early 1884. He was an early settler in Arvada and active in civil affairs.
This very shady 0.5-mile trail hugs the Allen Ditch Irrigation Canal. Park along Zuni Street just north of Ranum High School. Willow trees and cottonwood trees screen the ditch. There are nice mountain views looking across the high school sports fields. After crossing Clay Street, the trail goes through Cobblestone Park, with its small pond, loop trail and playground. The trail continues on the north side of the Allen Ditch past town homes before ending at Eliot Street.
