Westminster Station construction update
(Aug 21, 2014)
Construction is ongoing at the project site, located approximately at 71th Avenue and Irving Street.
Denver Transit Partners (DTP) and Lobato Construction, LLC., the city’s contractor, continue to prepare the tunnel excavation for setting the concrete pedestrian tunnel next month. This work includes pouring a concrete block cap on top of steel I-beams that were hammered into the ground earlier this month. The 24-foot wide by 14-foot tall pedestrian tunnel that is the primary access to the Westminster Station platform will be placed on top of this cap.
Coinciding with the tunnel placement, Lobato Construction is commencing with construction of the north plaza retaining wall, a separate project constructing a 248-foot wide by 16-foot tall retaining wall at the face of the pedestrian tunnel’s north entrance. Lobato’s first task is to shore the excavated area to allow a safe working environment for workers.
The pedestrian tunnel will lead commuters from the future parking garage to the Westminster Station platform.
RTD plans to open the Westminster Station in mid-2016. It will be located near 69th Avenue and Hooker Street.
