Irving Street Library celebration a tremendous success

(Apr 30, 2014)

Nearly 1,000 Westminster citizens gathered at Irving Street Library on Saturday, April 12, to celebrate 10 years of the library serving south Westminster.

The event was a tremendous success, from the refreshments to several musical acts, two dance groups, gift card and tote bag giveaways, decorations and everything in between.

Nearly 350 cookies were consumed as well as close to 300 hot dogs and gallons and gallons of lemonade.

The music and dance groups were a huge hit and Denver Zoo topped the day by bringing a python, hedgehog, turtle and a baby alligator to the party.

During 2013, the Irving Street branch welcomed 182,221 visitors. Of those, more than 16,000 attended various library programs including Story Time, Job Search Help, Homework Center, Speak English and more.

Another 88,454 logged into the computers, and many more used their own devices on the free wireless network. The librarians answered more than 30,000 reference questions. Plus, 221,431 books, DVDs, audiobooks, music CDs, magazines and downloadable items were checked out.

Thanks to everyone for coming out to Irving Street Library to celebrate and for the continuous support of the library.
