City’s GIS recognized for contributing to world map
(Nov 15, 2012)
The City of Westminster’s GIS (Geographic Information Systems) program has been recognized for its contribution to the Community Maps Program.
This program has been initiated by the software vendor ESRI and is a compilation of maps from around the world.
The goal is to make available authoritative data to web map users.
The city provided the data and maps, and the vendor will host the web map service for free. A seamless base map provides a backdrop for a number of the city’s online maps.
Having this service readily available has saved considerable resources when developing new applications.
