(Jun 28, 2012)
Westminster Police hosted the Crime Stoppers Shred-A-Thon on May 19 as one of five metro collection sites.
A total of 463,028 pounds of paper were collected at the event, setting a new world record.

For police, this confirms that citizen’s are more aware of identity theft and take advantage of this great opportunity to have their personal documents like bank statements and old medical or tax records shredded.
This also helps Crime Stoppers raise money which is used to pay rewards for tips that lead to the arrest and conviction of criminals who otherwise may not be found by police.
“Volunteers like those from our Citizen’s Academy Alumni Association allow us to make this event happen,” said Investigator Trevor Materasso.
Crime Stoppers hosts this fundraiser once a year.
