City acquires open space along Big Dry Creek
(Mar 08, 2012)
On Feb. 28, the City of Westminster acquired the northern 2.24 acres of the Westminster Reformed Presbyterian Church property located near 112th Avenue and Vrain Street for open space.
This acquisition will expand the existing Big Dry Creek Open Space in this area.
Purchasing this property ensures preservation of upland and riparian wildlife habitat, protects floodplain and water quality, and prevents development occurring right next to the existing open space area and creek.
The city’s Big Dry Creek Open Space area provides the citizens of Westminster with passive recreational opportunities.
The Adams County Open Space program provided a grant in the amount of $81,229 towards the purchase of this property.
