Pedestrian crossing improvements coming to U.S. 36 Bikeway intersections
(Apr 06, 2017)
The City of Westminster has been awarded Highway Safety Improvement Program funds by the Colorado Department of Transportation to conduct pedestrian crossing improvements at the intersections of the U.S. 36 Bikeway and 88th Avenue, Sheridan Boulevard and Church Ranch Boulevard.
Currently, trail users needing to traverse or exit the bikeway at these locations must cross exceptionally busy intersections.
CDOT awarded the city $251,000 to construct improvements to reduce vehicular speed on right turn ramps from U.S. 36, call attention to bike and pedestrian crossings, and enhance user access to pedestrian activation of traffic signals.
The city is currently in the process of creating engineering designs for the three locations. Construction is expected to begin in summer 2018.
The HSIP funds will leverage the funds needed to implement Mobility Action Plan projects.
