Firefighter ski team hosts fundraiser at Quaker Steak & Lube
(Feb 06, 2014)
Thursday, Feb. 20, 4-8 p.m., Quaker Steak & Lube
Each year, the Westminster Firefighter Ski Team raises money for The Children's Hospital Burn Camps Programs, The Denver Firefighters Burn Foundation, The International Association of Firefighters Burn Fund and the Westminster Firefighters Fire Victims Benefit Fund (Burn Fund).
Bring this flyer to Quaker Steak & Lube on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 4-8 p.m. and 15 percent of your bill will be donated to the ski team for these programs. A silent auction will also take place.
Last year, the team raised nearly $1,300.
The team will travel to Crested Butte Feb. 25-28 to compete in the annual National Firefighter Ski Races.
Firefighters participate in a hose race where five members ski/snowboard down a slalom course while holding on to a 50 foot section of fire hose. The fastest team gets bragging rights, but the trophy winner is decided by Jamaican handicap rules (random pick) and last year Westminster was the winner. There are also timed individual slalom and giant slalom races, which Westminster is consistent gold medal winners.
The true winners are the burn victims that these firefighters raise money for.
Check out their performance last year.
