Water, sewer rates to rise 4 percent in 2014
(Dec 18, 2013)
The City of Westminster water and sewer rates will increase by 4 percent in 2014, with the average residential customer impact of an additional $2.13 per month ($25.56 per year).
This rate adjustment will fund increasing costs for operations and maintenance, and system improvements such as replacing sewer pipe, upgrading components of the water treatment plant and assisting in the protection of the city’s water supply.
The city’s water and wastewater rates continue to remain comparable to those of its neighbors along the Front Range, even when comparing the new rates with other current rates.
Two other fees that pay for needed maintenance and construction throughout the city are also seeing slight increases in the coming year:
- The infrastructure fee will increase from $4 to $5 per month. This fee pays for needed maintenance for streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and street lights.
- The stormwater fee will increase from $3 to $4 per month beginning in 2014. The stormwater fee funds improvements to the city’s stormwater system to reduce flooding and protect utility lines throughout the city.
