Grants awarded from Adams County for trail, underpass and open space
(Dec 05, 2013)
The Adams County Commissioners awarded two grants to the City of Westminster for a trail and underpass project and an open space acquisition.
The city submitted a grant request in the amount of $585,000 to assist with construction of an underpass under 120th Avenue east of Federal Parkway, improvements to the box culvert under Federal Parkway, a trail along Ranch Creek and trail connections to the Big Dry Creek trail, Country Club Village retail center, Longsview Apartments, Country Club Highlands and the Ranch Country Club golf course.
The city used funds in the amount of $390,000 that were already allocated to construct the underpass at 120th Avenue for matching funds for a total project cost of $975,000.
This underpass will provide a safe, grade-separated crossing of a major highway and will allow citizens to access the Big Dry Creek Trail system, Metzger Farm Open Space and the businesses north of 120th Avenue.
The city also submitted a grant request in the amount of $276,000 to assist with the acquisition of 1.53 acres at the southeast corner of 75th and Sheridan for open space.
Acquisition of this property will complete the city’s ownership of the Little Dry Creek valley in this area of the city and will protect the view corridor for motorists traveling south on Sheridan Boulevard.
The city will use matching funds of $184,000 for this purchase, which is expected to be completed in mid-December.
