Fourteen vie for vacant council seat

Nov. 26 - UPDATE - Beverly Bishop has withdrawn from the candidacy.
Fourteen Westminster residents applied for the vacant City Council seat created when former councillor Herb Atchison was sworn in as mayor on Monday, Nov. 11.
City Council will interview the candidates at City Hall from 6-9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, and from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2.
The candidates will be considered for appointment on Monday, Dec. 9, and the selected candidate will finish the balance of Atchison's unexpired term, which will expire Nov. 2015.
The 14 candidates include: David Aragoni, Charles Bustos, Donald C. Ciancio, David M. DeMott, Kathleen A. Dodaro, A.J. Elserougi, Brian Harms, Jonathan Herrmann, Michael S. Melvin, Mark Moreno, Suzanne Ramirez, Anita L. Seitz, Merelene Stanley and Deborah M. Teter.
According to the City Charter and the Municipal Code, any council vacancy must be filled within 30 days by a majority vote of the remaining members of City Council, otherwise there must be a vote of the people.
