October is Fire Prevention Month
(Oct 03, 2013)
October is Fire Prevention Month and the 2013 National Fire Protection Association theme is “Prevent Kitchen Fires.”
Westminster Fire Department will be at numerous schools and community events this month to promote fire safety.
This week’s fire safety tip is – never leave food cooking on the stove unattended.
The number one cause of residential fires is cooking.
Think it can’t happen to you? Westminster Fire crews respond to numerous kitchen fires, the most recent on Sept. 19 on the 3300 block of 94th Ave.
Though the fire was contained to the kitchen and no one was seriously hurt, there was smoke damage to other areas in the home and total damage was estimated at $40,000.
This is a great time of year to review fire safety tips, and WFD would love to see you at a fire prevention month event.
