Metzger Farm listed on the State and National Register of Historic Places

(May 08, 2013)

The U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, recently announced the listing of the historic Metzger Farm on the State and National Register of Historic Places.

The Metzger Farm is located on the northeast corner of Lowell Boulevard and 120th Avenue.

The 152-acre farm was owned and operated by John Metzger and his family from 1943 to 2005 when it was purchased by the City of Westminster and the City and County of Broomfield.

John Metzger was a prominent Colorado attorney general from 1949 to 1951, and the Metzgers were active in other notable enterprises in Colorado.

The farm was opened to the public in 2012 and includes over two miles of trails, a trailhead parking lot, a fishing dock, wildlife viewing deck and a bridge connection to the Big Dry Creek Trail.

The state and national register listing is a recognition of this property’s contribution to the heritage of the state of Colorado.
