Safely dispose of old pharmaceuticals
(Apr 25, 2013)
Staff from the Westminster Police Department and Environmental Services and Water Quality divisions, in cooperation with the Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Agency, will provide a pharmaceutical drop off location from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at the Westminster Public Safety Center, 9110 Yates St.
This is a great opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted, unused medication and prescription drugs.
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and health issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse.
Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.
In addition, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away – both potential safety and health hazards.
