Business retention program going strong
(Mar 14, 2013)
The city’s Economic Development Office hosted two events recently to address the needs of existing business.
A focus group with representatives from McKesson Pharmaceuticals, General Dynamics and Ball Corporation met with city staff to describe their needs and requirements of small business who strive to win contracts with larger local firms. The focus group was the first of two planned for this year and was centered on software firms; a second focus on this topic will occur with the manufacturing sector later this year. The city’s intent is to compile a guide to procurement for small business of all kinds who seek contracts with larger employers.
Economic development staff also held a Westminster Tech Connect breakfast, where more than 30 attendees shared information and concerns with city staff and one another about aspects of the technology industry. Topics included the shortage in workforce of software developers and how to attract talent to this area, as well as the need for co-working spaces that provide individual entrepreneurs with workplace options that get them out of their home offices or local coffee shops and into a more collaborative and productive environment. Three more Tech Connect events will be held in 2013. There is no cost for the event and all Westminster technology companies are invited.
Notices of future events will be posted on the city’s website.
