Marion Barn designated as local historic landmark
(Jan 17, 2013)
The Marion barn, windmill and 18.8 acres at the southwest corner of 120th and Pecos Street were designated as a local historic landmark by the City Council on Jan. 14.
The barn and windmill are the only remnants of the original Marion homestead with intact historical structures. These structures exemplify a barn style and well structure that were popular at the time they were built.
The land, barn and windmill are associated with three of the original property owners, the Marions, the Wilkins and the Ward families. The property is now city-owned open space, and the land and barn are used for grazing of horses. The windmill is not operational.
