SWAG recognized for participation in One Million Bones arts initiative
(Jan 10, 2013)
A public reception and open house will take place on Saturday, Jan. 12, the Rodeo Market Community Arts Center, 3915 W. 73rd Ave., to recognize the South Westminster Arts Group’s (SWAG) participation in the One Million Bones project.
The reception time has changed from 6-9 p.m. to 1-4 p.m.
This national arts initiative uses education and hands-on art-making to raise awareness of genocide and other atrocities occurring around the world. Community art groups and public art education programs throughout Colorado have joined together to make 7,000 of the 1 million bones that will be on display in spring 2013 on the National Mall in Washington, DC.
Every bone created generates a $1 donation, up to $500,000, to CARE for its work in Somalia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Activities at the reception include a display of the bones created by SWAG, an educational seminar, free-market vendors and entertainment from cultural groups.
