Pedestrian tunnel upgrades approved for Westminster Station
(Dec 13, 2012)
While the Westminster Station commuter rail terminal at 70th Avenue and Irving Street will not go into service until spring 2016, planning and design efforts are in full swing.
City Council approved an agreement with RTD and the Eagle P3 contractor for an important architectural upgrade of the pedestrian tunnel that will be used by commuters to make their way under the rail tracks to the station platform.
The so-called “betterment” replaces the utilitarian culvert proposed in the RTD station plans with a precast concrete arch structure that will complement the city’s plans for the station.
The city’s vision for the station is to integrate the commuter uses with community plazas that will enhance the redevelopment potential of surrounding properties.
