The purpose of the Friends of the Westminster Public Library is to advance and encourage literacy among our Westminster community, both youth and adults, through experiences in theater, dance, music and visual arts, to promote the Westminster Public Library to the Westminster community, to engage in activities which will generate financial support for the Library’s services to the community and to confer with the Westminster Parks, Recreation Library Board and Westminster Library staff on matters relating to the welfare of the institution.
The Friends of the Westminster Public Library raise money to enhance library services. Besides the Gift and Used Book Shop at College Hill, the Friends has several shelves of fine used books for sale at the Irving Street Library. Special book fairs are held at both libraries throughout the year.
All proceeds go to purchase items for both libraries, such as couches for the Teen Underground area at College Hill, and a Puppet Theater for Irving Street. Proceeds from a recent book fair funded the purchase of some new ottomans for the Children's Room at College Hill.
An application to join the Friends can be found in the Friends' newsletter.
