The following community organizations are additional opportunities for you to get involved in Westminster. If you are aware of an organization that needs to be listed, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@cityofwestminster.us to discuss further.

A Precious Child is a non-profit organization dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of disadvantaged and displaced children by improving their quality of life.  A Precious Child serves the six county north metro area and are headquartered in Broomfield.  There are numerous volunteer opportunities available for all ages, interests and skill levels.  Their greatest need is in the clothing bank where community donations are received, sorted, counted and hung in their retail-like setting.  They also welcome help in their front office answering phones, making appointments, doing data entry and computer work and assisting with community outreach.  Additionally, they are always looking for bilingual help with their clients.  Hours of operation for volunteers are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.  For more information, view their website and to volunteer email them at contactus@apreciouschild.org or call them at 303-466-4274.

The American Red Cross invites you to become part of their volunteer community where they bring like-minded individuals together to help make a difference. Big Brother Big Sister of Colorado connects Bigs and Littles two to four times a month to hang out through its community mentoring program.  You can do whatever you and your Little like to do.  Think of what you would do on a typical afternoon and bring your Little Brother/Sister along.  Go to the movies, play in the park, get a burger, walk your dog, wash your car or go on a hike - just have fun!  Big Brother Big Sister of Colorado staff will provide ideas as well as free activities and tickets to community events.  Community mentors are required to make a twelve month commitment and must be 20 years of age or older.  For more information, contact Michelle Cherniske or view their website

You can also become a Sports Buddy at Big Brother Big Sister of Colorado.  You will meet one to three times a month to either play sports or attend a sporting event.  Big Brother Big Sister of Colorado staff will plan all the activities, provide tickets, equipment and transportation.  Just show up and play ball with a kid - its game time!  Sports Buddies are required to make a six month commitment and must be 20 years of age or older.  To learn more, contact Michelle Cherniske or visit their website.

The Butterfly Pavilion seeks volunteers to assist in all areas of operation. You can help for 4 hours with one of their fun public events or give at least 8 hours a month and learn about and share their exhibits, mission, and animals with visitors. Help in our classrooms teaching children about insect lifecycles. Learn how to hold Rosie the tarantula and share their ambassador animals with fascinated kids and adults. Dig in the dirt to help keep their gardens beautiful or delve into their behind the scenes office operations.  If you are intrigued by invertebrate animals and want to learn more contact them at volunteering@butterflies.org and visit their website at www.butterflies.org/.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Adams and Broomfield counties provides specially selected and trained community volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in the pursuit of safe and permanent homes. CASA is a volunteer-based nonprofit organization that trains and supervises community volunteers to represent the best interests of our most vulnerable citizens-child victims of physical, sexual or emotional abuse and neglect. Volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. Educational Equity for All (EEA Adams 50 School District) promotes school access and school success for students that experience homelessness in Adams County School District 50.  This program develops district and community partnerships to provide homeless families and students with educational and social support services.   Direct service programs include the Totes of Hope Book and Food Weekend Backpack and Access to Literacy Home Library projects.  Each Friday, up to 330 students preschool-3rd grade receive backpacks with food items and an age and language appropriate book to build a home library collection. Feline Alliance is dedicated to addressing the national crisis of overpopulation, abandonment, and unnecessary euthanasia by creating a collaborative coalition for felines.  They are committed to promoting a communication network and support resources for those caring for homeless and stray cats. They will also work with and educate property owners in appropriate decision making and humane solutions for stray and homeless cats. In addition, they educate the public about the proper care of cats, the importance of spaying and neutering, the benefits of adopting shelter cats, and the kindness to all living creatures. Isabelle's Kitchen is a 90% driven non-for profit that provides a free dinner program for our NW Denver/Westminster-area elderly and struggling families.  Dinners are served at a small friendly restaurant with the atmosphere of “Grandma’s house,” specializing in fresh, well balanced, homemade food made with love. On average they serve over 150 guests per dinner.  Volunteers help in the dining room and kitchen food service area every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 4:45 to 7:45 p.m and can help with dinner every Monday and Wednesday afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m.  To volunteer, call 303-487-9866.

K9 c.a.r.e.s. Victim Support(R) provides Animal Assisted Therapy and Animal Assisted Activities to individuals in the Denver Metro and outlying areas through client organizations such as police departments, courts, libraries, schools, hospitals, family shelters and child advocacy organizations.  Fees are not charged to individuals or organizations for direct services provided.  K9 c.a.r.e.s. needs more qualified canine teams to provide high quality services for existing programs and the high demand for developing new programs. The Senior Hub Meals on Wheels delivers meals to homebound seniors in Adams County.  Volunteer drivers spend two hours one day a week delivering food to the same route every week.  Cities served include Westminster, Thornton, Northglenn, Federal Heights and Unicoporated Adams County.  All drivers are reimbursed for gas mileage on their personal vehicles.  For more information on the Senior Hub visit their website at www.seniorhub.org/index.php.  To volunteer, contact Lindsey Wendt at lwendt@seniorhub.org

Westminster FISH Food Bank
is one of three locations affiliated with FISH offering a year-round food bank to support the Adams County community. Volunteer opportunities include stocking shelves, inventorying, bagging and carry groceries to vehicles for visitors. FISH is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon to 4 p.m.  To volunteer, call 303-429-1569.
