Rocky Flats, a former nuclear plant located west of Westminster, is a now a wildlife refuge in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Refuge System.

The City of Westminster, and other Standley Lake cities including Thornton and Northglenn and the City and County of Broomfield, strongly advocated for and now support the national wildlife refuge as the permanent land use for Rocky Flats, which will assure water quality management on the site.
