Westminster residents are proud of the city's rich heritage, including the history and origins of Westminster in the neighborhoods south of 80th Avenue, as well as a number of fascinating agricultural sites throughout the rest of the city.
The city has established a historic preservation program in order to establish and protect local historic landmarks. The purpose of the landmarking program is to preserve the historically significant elements of landmarked structures so they may continue to be a source of visual interest and education for the public.
The city has complied with a number of state and federally mandated requirements in order to become a "Certified Local Government." This designation allows the city to provide a means for Westminster homeowners to gain access to state tax benefits as a result of their investment in older and historic residential properties.
More information about Westminster's history and historic architecture is available on our site, including the history of Westminster and the Westminster Historical Society.
We encourage you to learn more about the city program and to share this information with others. Also, there are many heritage resources throughout the city that have yet to be recognized. As we work together, we will come to understand more completely the people, activities and accomplishments that knit together and form the fabric of the City of Westminster.
