Location: Jessica Ridgeway Park - abutting Moore Street, west of Lewis Street
Artist: Jim LaPaso, Kyle Texas (website)
Year Installed: 2013
How Acquired: This sculpture was purchased using a combination of funding from the City of Westminster and donations from the community for the Jessica Ridgeway Park project.
Comments: This kinetic sculpture of three colorful butterflies twirls and rises with the wind. The sculpture is fabricated out of stainless steel with insets of purple and green dichroic glass, which were Jessica Ridgeway’s favorite colors. The piece is 12-feet tall. The piece was selected because Jessica Ridgeway, for whom the park is named, greatly enjoyed butterflies. Jessica Ridgeway who lived near the park was abducted and murdered at age 10 in October 2012. This park sculpture and custom designed playground equipment honor and remember Jessica’s brief life.
