Dolly

Location: The Shoenberg Farm commercial development at the northwest corner of West 72nd Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard.
Artist: Lyle Nichols, Palisade, Colorado (website).
Year Installed: 2009.
How Acquired: The acquisition was jointly funded by the City of Westminster and the land owners, Jerry and Debi Tepper. The city requires that developers provide public art in commercial developments.
Comments: Dolly is an 800-pound, 5-by-8-foot recycled metal sculpture of a Holstein dairy cow. The site owners, Jerry and Debi Tepper, were closely involved with selection of the artist and design of the sculpture. Metal artifacts from the historic Shoenberg Farm were incorporated into the sculpture. The sculpture is called Dolly in recognition of the Tepper family's Dolly Madison Ice Cream company that operated at the Shoenberg Farm from 1941 to 2001. Adjacent to the commercial development is historic Shoenberg Farm, which was built in 1911 to provide dairy and egg products for National Jewish Hospital.
