Artist: John King – Lyons, Colorado – website,
Sculpture: Apple Sprite
Location: The Orchard Town Center in Arbor Commons Park at the northwest corner of 148th Drive and Fox Street.
How Acquired: This sculpture was donated to the city by McWhinney Development Co., as required by the city’s public art program.
Comments: The following statement was provided by the artist: “Apple Sprite is a reflection on the location of the Orchard Town Center in commemoration of Westminster’s past as a location of large apple orchards. The piece is patterned after a fruit tree, but with almost human behaviors. It dances and plays in the wind in Arbor Commons Park. The piece is 22 feet tall and is made of powder coated steel. The transparent coatings create a watery iridescence on the leaves and fruits. The piece seems very comfortable in the park.”
