Wastewater collection system
The Utilities Division's Wastewater Collection System Maintenance Program is an annual program that is provided throughout various sections of Westminster each year. The purpose of the program is to maintain the sanitary sewer mainlines, which helps prevent possible problems related to wastewater flows in Westminster. Although the Utilities Division is responsible for providing this service, the work is currently contracted out to an independent contractor. This allows the Utilities Division employees to work in other areas of the infrastructure system to help better serve the public. Using private contractors to handle the wastewater maintenance program has been a successful practice since 1997. Westminster's wastewater collection system consists of approximately 400 miles of sanitary sewer mainline. Some of the services contracted out in this program include: sewer mainline jet cleaning, television inspections of the sanitary sewer mainlines that help identify problem areas and inspections of all the grease and sand trap interceptors throughout Westminster, which helps keep the sewer mainlines clear of unwanted debris.
