Q: Will I be able to get in and out of my driveway during the project?
A: You will be able to access your driveway on a daily basis. The crew will place “No Parking” signs in front of your property when they plan to excavate in your area. The crew usually starts excavating around 7 a.m. and the trench is backfilled by approximately 4:30 p.m. every day unless something unexpected happens. You may need to park down the street until the crew makes it past your location.
Q. Will my entire street be patched back from curb to curb?
A: Most projects only call for us to patch back the trench with an 8-foot-wide patch the entire length of the trench. The majority of times the rest of the asphalt in the street is not in bad enough shape to justify the extra expense of replacing the entire street.
Q. How long will my water be turned off?
A: Your water should be on the majority of the project. Most projects we only need to shut the water off for 1 or 2 different days to connect to existing water mains. These shut downs average 4-7 hours and you will be notified at least 1 day prior to your water being shut off. The only time you would not be notified is if the old water main were to break, requiring us to shut it down immediately.
Q. Will my water taste different with a new water main?
A: On occasion, after a water main project your water may taste and or smell like plastic. Do not be alarmed, this is normal due to the new plastic pipe and my be experienced up to two weeks.
