The city computer systems are monitored to assure proper functioning of the systems, and to provide security for the computer system’s operation and information. Security policies and practices are in place to reduce the likelihood of unauthorized use.

As a visitor to the city website, you may choose to engage in many activities without providing any personal information. In connection with other activities, such as filing sales tax returns, submitting utility bill payments, registering and paying for recreation classes, applying for jobs with the city, and other services, you may be asked to provide certain information about yourself or your business by filling out and submitting an online form.  It is completely optional for you to engage in these activities, and the city offers traditional methods for you to access these services. If you elect to engage in these activities, however, the city may ask that you provide us information, such as your name, mailing address, e-mail address, sales tax ID, recreation number, credit card number, bank account number or other personal information. Depending upon the activity, some of the information that we ask you to provide is mandatory and some is voluntary. If you do not provide the mandatory data with respect to a particular activity, you will not be able to engage in that activity online.

Personal confidential information, such as credit card/bank account numbers and job application data that you provide is protected in several ways. First, the city uses encrypted sessions identified as those where the address (URL) begins with HTTPS. The city automatically provides web users with encrypted sessions whenever confidential personal information is requested during a web session. This encrypted session provides a high level of data security and confidentiality in transmitting data.  Second, confidential information is stored on a secure server, accessible only for the purpose of managing computer resources and transacting the requested service.

For your security, do not send confidential information, such as credit card numbers or social security numbers within an e-mail message. E-mail received by the city may be forwarded to another party, government agency or individual. Certain e-mail may constitute a public record and is subject to disclosure under state law. Communication made through e-mail or any other computer messaging system shall in no way be deemed to constitute legal notice to the city or any of its agencies, officers, employees, agents or representatives with respect to any existing or potential claim or cause of action.
