 Adopt-A-Street

The City of Westminster Adopt-A-Street Program was instituted in 1989.  Volunteer groups agree to pick up litter along a one-mile section of roadway for a one-year period.

This popular program has continued to grow throughout the years and presently there are 63 groups under contract, committed to cleaning 48 miles of arterial street rights-of-way each month. Since the inception of the program, thousands of bags of litter have been picked up.

Street Division staff salutes all of the groups who have participated in this worthwhile program, many of which have renewed their contracts for several years. In 2008 volunteers contributed 6,300 hours to this program.

Who can participate? - Any civic-minded organization, Boy Scouts and/or Girl Scouts, military units, garden clubs, employee associations, homeowners' associations, high school/college groups or individuals.

A City of Westminster representative will assist the group in establishing a specific street segment to be "adopted", execute an agreement, set up a litter pick up schedule, distribute trash bags and safety vests and discuss safety rules with the volunteers.

In appreciation for the volunteer group’s litter removal efforts, the city will install a sign along the pick-up route crediting the group for their participation in the Adopt-A-Street Program.
